09 febbraio 2023

In tutti i centri vengono distribuiti profilattici maschili e femminili e materiale informativo multilingue.

Prevention Among Migrant People (PAMP2) Project, realised by Anlaids in partnership with the Italian Council for Refugees (CIR), implemented thanks to a Grant from Gilead Sciences, is the continuation of the pilot project "PAMP - Prevention among migrant people: a pilot project", which was carried out in 2020/2022 in Lazio and Umbria. The aim of the Project is to provide the migrant and asylum seeker population with correct information on HIV infection and prevention methods, raising awareness of the importance of testing.
For this second part of the Project, we wanted to implement and improve the results gathered so far by specifically addressing specific target groups, such as women, with particular reference to trafficking victims and young adults.
The territorial scope of  PAMP2 Project is the Lazio Region.

The first step of the first PAMP Project was the training of cultural mediators, who were essential in approaching foreigners, who received information on HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, prevention and diagnostics, and issues related to stigma and discrimination.
In  PAMP2 project, training was targeted at operators working in reception facilities for migrants and asylum seekers. The training took place online over two days and was attended by operators from Lazio but also from other regions (Calabria, Veneto, Piedmont).

Project activities include meetings at reception centres, with the collaboration of doctors from the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Policlinico di Roma - Tor Vergata, where general information is given, using specially prepared slides, with simultaneous translation by cultural mediators.
People are then offered the rapid saliva test for HIV, which is carried out on site by doctors in anonymity and confidentiality, also providing, if requested, personalised counselling on HIV and STIs.
Male and female condoms and multilingual information material are distributed in all centres.

We believe that PAMP2 is a flexible tool, able to adapt to even sudden changes in the migration scenario in our country. In fact, this past year, our operators have also been called to intervene in centres hosting refugees from the war in Ukraine, and although this was not part of the initial objectives, we felt it was right to be there.

The project was realised thanks to a Grant from Gilead Sciences, but we are determined to continue, so as not to lose the expertise and contacts we have built up over the last two years. and to intervene in an area where there is still much work to be done.
